About the Artist

Cindy Lommasson Bio
Abstract painter, Portland, Oregon
Cindy Lommasson was born in Washington state and has lived in the Pacific Northwest ever since. She currently resides in Portland Oregon. Cindy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Portland State University in 1984, focusing on Chinese and Japanese-inspired ceramics. She then spent years managing other peoples' art production and careers, working for the Portland Art Museum, Portland Center for the Visual Arts, Northwest Media Project and as founder and director of a film series of work by women. She was Assistant Producer of animation at Will Vinton Productions (now Laika) for a few years, after which she founded The Art Agency, representing illustrators to a national market.
In 2003, she decided to renew focus on her own creative path. Taking workshops to explore a variety of media, she first continued her ongoing interest in East Asian art by studying traditonal sumi ink and watercolor, under Christine Lee, and later Henry Li and Yuming Zhu. She continued with that medium for over a decade, mounting many exhibits, then established herself as a popular sumi instructor. In 2013 she was named Artist in Residence at Oregon Health and Science University's Wellness Center where her work was exhibited and sold, valued by medical professionals and patients for it's ethereal qualities and serene mood.
Eventually, wanting a more forgiving paint medium, she started exploring acrylics and mixed water media. Noted instructors include William Park and Joan Fullerton. Abstract art, in particular the early New York abstract expressionists had been calling to her since discovering them in college art history courses. Now, since 2020 she creates abstract paintings in acrylic and mixed water media on canvas, wood and paper. Her work is in many private collections as well as OHSU Center for Health and Healing, and was featured in the Spring 2022 Issue of Subjectiv Journal. She proudly donates work to the annual Cascade AIDS Art Auction, a juried event, and other important causes.
